WEDNESDAY Introduction to IB- what are the traits? Which ones best meet your personality?
Begin "IB traits and me" assignment.
THURSDAY Work on "IB traits and me" assignment, complete a short paragraph for each trait you select, include a picture to represent the traits and you.
FRIDAY Complete the "IB traits and me" assignment. If time, some students will be selected randomly to share with the class.
MONDAY 8/28 Peruse the text books, review topics, index, compare online book & text books
Set up science journals and review NOS vocabulary.
DO NOW: Two students discussed scientific methods. They disagreed about why scientists test a hypothesis.
Sharla: I think scientists test a hypothesis to disprove it.
Marcos: I think scientists test a hypothesis to prove it.
Write down which student you most agree with. Explain why you agree with that student.
TUESDAY 8/29 NOS vocabulary and definitions into journals, "Think About It" & "Get Ready To Read". NOS page 3. Then a discussion of the branches of science. Students share what they want to learn in class this year.
DO NOW: What is the difference between a guess and a hypothesis?
WEDNESDAY 8/30 What is the difference between a guess and a hypothesis? How do we distinguish between scientific theory and scientific law?
DO NOW: Why do you think an experiment is important?
What is scientific inquiry?
THURSDAY 8/31 Review the steps of the scientific method, and add to notes in the journals. We will set up the scientific method foldable, and they will begin their foldables. Lesson 2: Scientific Notation and Scientific Tools.
DO NOW: NOS Worksheet 1
FRIDAY 9/01 How do we break a simple experiment into the steps of the scientific method? The students will complete their foldables with their own example of a simple experiment broken down into the steps of the scientific method.
MONDAY 9/4/2016:

TUESDAY 9/5/2016:
Direct – Teacher will introduce and go over variables
Guided – Using practice questions the teacher will review variables
Independent – Students will practice identifying variables from questions projected on the board
WEDNESDAY 9/6/2016:
Independent –Students will take variables/scientific notation quiz
Direct/Guided – Paper Planes Lab set-up/instructions for write-up (after quiz)
THURSDAY 9/7/2016:
Independent –Students will take Scientific Problem Solving Test
FRIDAY 9/8/2016:
Independent – Students will perform a lab involving the creation of a simple paper airplane and test their planes against each other. They will record their data in a chart they create and make a relevant graph to convey their results.
Monday- 9/11/17:
Start Chapter 1 “Earth In Space & Time”
Section 1: Earth’s Motion

Independent: Students will complete worksheet in small groups on Section 1-2 questions and diagrams

Wednesday- 9/13/17:
Section 1-2 Activity- Oreo Lab on Moon Phases and review both sections
Guided/ Independent:
Students will use Oreos to create the cycles of the Moon using their notes and diagram from their notebooks
Guided: Teacher will review Sections 1-2 through a jeopardy game in small groups
Thursday- 9/14/17: (Early Release)
Quiz- Section 1-2
Independent: Students will take a quiz over Sections 1-2
Friday-9/15/17:
Section 3- Eclipses and Tides
Guided: Teacher will guide students through an animation and diagrams of the tides and eclipses while doing a demonstration in class with flashlights and balls to show the eclipses.
Independent: Students will create mini-diagrams in groups showing various eclipses/ tides
